Explore Derawan (Part II)

It was a bright sunny day in Balikpapan. A perfect weather to continue our trip to Derawan Island. We are in a full energy to have a not-so-easy trip. We took a morning flight to Berau (approx. 1 hour) and when we arrived, we were picked up by our travel agency (Be borneo Tour). At the airport, I got a little incident, I fell into a sewer because I look into the camera to made a Vlog during walking.I feel shame, it was a lesson for me to be more careful.

We started the journey by riding a car for around 30 minutes in a winding road to Tanjung Batu port. All the way, we saw trees had been cut down. I hope is not an illegal logging because Borneo's rainforest is a "lungs of the planet" . After arriving in ports of Tanjung Batu we hopped into a boat and continued a 30-minutes journey by a bumpy speed boat.

Our trip was worth it, we finally arrived in a hidden tropical paradise in the middle of the day, so we still had plenty of time to explore the island. Our first idea was to rent a bike because Derawan is a tiny island. We circled to the back of the island and we saw a white sandy beach with clear water. The pleasing scenery was very similar to what magazine picture as a perfect seaside holiday.

We continued biking and we met a friendly locals and children who played around with their friends and it reminded me about my childhood memory. After completely touring around the island, we took a rest in our Floating Cottage (Reza homestay). The room is simple but quite comfortable with Air con, clean bathroom and fresh drinking water in front. One of the best things from our room is the amazing view of turquoise water. Our guide told us if we were lucky , we can saw a big turtles swam in front or below the cottage.

We completed the day by having a dinner in a small restaurant appointed by our travel agency. We went to bed early because we needed to have a good night’s sleep before a big day tomorrow.
